On the 24th, the day of the Lantern Festival, the Liwan Lantern Poetry Festival was held at the former site of the Jinsheng Cinema. “In summer, watching foreign movies and blowing the air conditioner, the idea is to imitate the state of heaven. They even used the techniques of “Alice in Wonderland” , carving the secret heart of Princess Xiguan waking up in the forest…” The poem “Jinsheng Cinema” written by the famous poet Huang Lihai was performed by young actor Chai Xinyi, evoking the feelings of the old people in the Jinsheng Cinema.

Jinsheng Cinema, formerly known as “Jinsheng Cinema”, was built in 1934 and is located on Enning Road, Liwan District, Guangzhou. It became a sensation following its completion. It covers an area of ​​more than 2,000 square meters and is known as “the most magnificent cinema in the city”. In addition to showing movies, Jinsheng Cinema also presents Cantonese opera, singing and dancing, acrobatics, etc. Famous Cantonese opera actors such as Xue Juexian and Ma Shitang once performed here, and it once became a gathering place for celebrities in Guangzhou. It is worth mentioning that the Jinsheng Cinema is the first sound cinema in the country where men and women can go out and sit side by side. It has become a date place for many couples. It is also the first air-conditioned cinema in Guangzhou.

He recalled, “Citizen culture at that time There were fewer activities, and watching movies was a kind of enjoyment. The number of moviegoers was the largest during the Spring Festival, and the movie would be screened at 2 a.m.; during the Lantern Festival, young men and women would also go to watch movies together.” When talking regarding the movies with the highest box office at that time, Zhang Ruilin remembered “Romance on Lushan Mountain” and “Shaolin Temple” are the most popular movies among the public.
