High-End Cars Stolen in Elaborate Theft Ring Broken Up

A sophisticated car theft ring targeting high-end vehicles across the Valley has been dismantled, with four suspects facing serious charges.

"This was a well-trained criminal ring," said Capt. Erik Axlund, Vehicle Theft Taskforce Commander. "They had a very sound method of stealing these types of vehicles; they utilized technology, they would force break into the vehicle, disable the alarm or horn and then utilize technology to start the vehicle."

Arizona authorities believe the men are responsible for stealing at least 22 vehicles, mainly Chevrolet trucks like the Silverado, and other high-value vehicles across Glendale, Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Gilbert, AZ, totaling an estimated value of $1.4 million.

The thefts began in late February and continued for several months before the suspects’ arrest in July. According to authorities, the four men used "professional key tools" to break into, and start stolen vehicles, with police recovering 18 of the 22 vehicles

Suspects would abandon and dismantle the vehicles, using fake plates and switching parts.

“This was not a chop shop case. The vehicles were being ordered by a transnational gang with plans to have them delivered across the border for further use," explained Axlund.
