According to “Fortinet 2023 Global Ransomware Report“Phishing social engineering is the main way used by 56% of cyber actors and criminals to infiltrate the network and launch ransomware, a type of data hijacking.
According to material released by Fortinetresearch shows that the method remains the number one for this type of attack mainly due to the success achieved over the years, with, in 80% of companies, at least one employee being the victim of a phishing attempt, according to lsurvey carried out by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.
“The research that points to this high rate of attacks is linked to elements such as post-pandemic economic growth and the use of artificial intelligence by cybercriminals”, observes Clerio Almeida, CEO of Brasiline, a cybersecurity, infrastructure and cloud company.
For Almeida, the topic demands attention. With this in mind, he lists five cybersecurity measures that can be adopted by companies looking to increase prevention of phishing attacks in the following topics:
Education and awareness: Training employees and users to recognize and avoid phishing is critical. Sender verification: the professional must make sure that emails or messages are actually from legitimate sources before clicking on links or providing personal information. Keep software and systems up to date: it is necessary to ensure that the operating system and software are always up to date with the latest security patches. Using two-factor authentication (2FA): It’s important to strengthen the security of online accounts by using two-factor authentication whenever possible. Be wary of urgent requests: “Finally, it is necessary to avoid making impulsive decisions or sharing sensitive information in response to urgent and unverified requests”, he recommends.
