The community of Athlone is mourning the loss of Philomena O’Donnell (née O’Donnell), a beloved resident who passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2nd, 2025. She was 89 years old. Philomena called Clonbrusk on Ballymahon Road home, but her roots ran deep in Bansha, County Tipperary.Those who knew her remember her warm spirit and kind heart, qualities that touched the lives of everyone she encountered.

Philomena, a beloved matriarch, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Surrounded by her loving family, she peacefully departed this world. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her. Philomena was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, John (Jack), her daughter Caitriona, her grandson conor, and her brother Tom. Though her loss is immeasurable, her memory will forever be a source of comfort to her adoring family.

Cherished Family ties

Philomena is survived by her loving children, Pat, Marie, Enda, and Roseanne. The bond they shared with their mother was unbreakable, and they will forever cherish the countless memories they created together. Her daughters-in-law,Katrina and Antoinette,were also deeply loved by Philomena,and she welcomed them into the family with open arms. Philomena’s five grandchildren, John, Leah, Jessica, Mark, and Mia, were the apple of her eye. She adored spending time with them, showering them with love and creating lasting memories. They will deeply miss their grandmother’s warm embrace and her unwavering support. She also leaves behind a wide circle of family and friends who loved her dearly. Her in-laws, nephews, nieces, relatives, and countless friends will always remember Philomena’s kindness, generosity, and infectuous smile.

The family has announced funeral arrangements to honor the passing of their loved one. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at Flynn’s Funeral Home, located on The Strand in Athlone, on Saturday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 12:00 noon in Our Lady Queen of peace Church in Coosan. Following the service, interment will take place at Coosan Cemetery.

**Roseanne:** Thank you. My mother was the heart of our family, always showering us with love and warmth. She had this astounding ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved. I’ll always cherish our family gatherings, filled with laughter, good food, and Mum’s infectious smile.

**roseanne:** Mum was always there to lend a helping hand. Whether it was baking for a neighbor, visiting a friend in need, or volunteering at the local church, she always put others first. That kind of selflessness truly defined her.
