Although it is not unanimous among our editorial staff, the new Philips robot has the merit of being rather original with its cream color. The station obviously matches and is adorned with gray fabric on a large part. The robot is also available in black and is otherwise quite classic.
Its round format is reminiscent of other models, even if the industry seems to be moving towards more square formats, like Ecovacs with its Deebot X2. A rangefinder is provided on the top to allow it to find its way, without making it gain too much height since it peaks below 10 cm. There are also other sensors on its tower, including a 3D ToF on the front for detecting small obstacles. Philips hasn’t gone as far as integrating a camera, but the HomeRun XU7100 seems pretty well equipped for navigation. Eight ToF sensors are also integrated into the bumper and other sensors are still to be found on the bottom to prevent it from falling down the stairs, for example.
This model is well equipped to clean, but we would have liked it to be able to lift its mop when passing over the carpets, as the Roborock S8 can do. He cannot leave it in his station either, and it is even impossible to remove it manually due to the hooks used to hold it under the tank, which risk snagging the carpets.
Said tank cannot be removed either without blocking the robot. However, it offers a suitable capacity of 240 ml and its shape has been designed to go over carpets. The HomeRun in the corners.
The HomeRun XU7100 focuses more on vacuuming than washing. It also comes with a charging station, itself equipped with a suction system to empty its collector. The waste is then transferred into a 3 liter bag. This type of station obviously takes up more space than a simple charging station, but remains more compact than a version additionally equipped with water tanks for washing the mop and filling the robot tank, like the Q Revo from Roborock.
Connectivity & application
The HomeRun XU7100 benefits from a dual-band WiFi connection – 2.4 and 5 GHz – which allows it to access the Internet and the Philips HomeRun Robot app. Although it sometimes mixes languages, it is rather clear and pleasant to use. Multiple maps can be saved for multiple floors, and we find them both accurate and easy to read. It is possible to divide the rooms to select those to clean, but also to create areas to avoid or vacuum only. Philips also offers prohibited areas to climb.
Several cleaning settings are offered. More precisely, there are four suction powers and three water flow rates for washing, but also the possibility of activating or not activating the vibrations of the mop and carpet detection. It is also possible to ask the robot to move back and forth in Y shapes to increase washing efficiency, or to perform up to five passes – these settings can be selected for each room. A planning tool is available and uses the same settings.
When it cleans, the robot can be followed live on the map, and it is also possible to find maps showing its route following each session to check where it has gone.
