Philips adds time slots to more finely configure its Hue switches

Philips has just pushed a update in the latest version of its application, and it can be useful if you have physical control boxes from the brand: it allows you to adjust the behavior of the buttons depending on the time.

The update.

It is available on the Dimmer Switch (shaped like a remote control sold for €20) and on the Smart Button.

Button and remote control.

For the moment, as sometimes with the brand, the function is still being deployed. It obviously requires an update of the accessories (which you can force in Settings > Software update) but which is quite slow to install. Normally, once the update has been carried out, you will have access to the new feature in Settings > Accessories. The idea is simple, and it was already in place for certain accessories: the possibility of defining different functions depending on the time.

Here with five slices.

It is possible to add up to ten time slots, each of which allows different functions. For those who prefer subdued light in the evening or those who only want to turn on colored bulbs in the evening, this is an interesting new feature. The screenshot shows the different settings with five slices, because our button is not yet up to date.

He notes that while direct integration into the Hue application (and at the hardware level) is new, home automation solutions like Home Assistant and others already allowed this type of adjustments, as did third-party Hue applications.
