The armed forces of the Philippines and the United States began the second phase of their joint maritime and air exercises in the Philippines on Wednesday in a bid to strengthen the interoperability of the two countries’ military forces.

“The Armed Forces of the Philippines and the United States Indo-Pacific Command held the second phase of their maritime and air exercises in the Philippine Sea aimed at improving the interoperability of the military forces of the two countries,” said Armed Forces of the Philippines Public Affairs Office Chief Xerxes Trinidad.

These maneuvers also aim to strengthen regional security and constitute a significant step forward for the alliance between the Philippines and the United States, said Mr. Trinidad.

The first phase of these exercises took place from November 21 to 23 last year and involved ships and aircraft from both countries.

The Philippines, Japan, Korea and the United States also organized the seventh edition of the “Kamandag” joint military exercise in the Philippines in November 2023, with the participation of the United Kingdom. This is an annual exercise held by the Philippine Marine Corps and the United States Marine Corps since 2016 as part of defense cooperation.
