Independent candidate and current Vice President Leni Robredo came in second with nearly 14.7 million votes. The final election results will be announced following confirmation by the Philippine Election Commission and Congress.
There were 67,442,616 registered voters in the Philippines this election. On the 9th, voters cast their ballots at more than 105,000 polling stations across the Philippines to elect the new Philippine president, vice president, members of Congress, local administrators and members of parliament.
Marcos’ running mate, the eldest daughter of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, and Davao Mayor Sarah Duterte-Carpio won more than 30.06 million votes and won the vice presidential election with an absolute majority.
In the early morning of the 10th, Marcos issued a brief statement at his campaign headquarters, thanking campaign supporters for everything they had done over the past six months. Robredo also issued a statement calling on supporters to respect the vote.
