Philipp Manuel Gutmann (30) is a composer, music editor, musicologist and chairman of the symphony orchestra.

As part of the Lower Austrian Cultural Awards ceremony in the Festspielhaus St. Pölten, Philipp Manuel Gutmann recently received a recognition award in the music category – and he is overwhelmed by the award. “Many thanks to the state of Lower Austria, to Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner and all jury members for this beautiful award,” said the 30-year-old composer, music editor, musicologist and chairman of the Herzogenburg Symphony Orchestra. He studied composition at the Music and Art Private University of the City of Vienna and graduated with honors in 2017. Gutmann completed internships with well-known music publishers and conducted musicological research with the support of the City of Vienna. He is a board member of several composers’ associations and organizes contemporary concerts. This diversity of activities, which is important to him, complements his composing and gives him a feeling of belonging and connection through constant contact with greats from the art and cultural scene.

In recent years, the man from Herzogenburg has received numerous scholarships and composition funding from various cultural institutions, including the 2023 State Scholarship for Composition from the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Public Service and Sport.
