Philipp Lahm, director of the European Football Championship (Euro 2024), to be held in Germany, expressed his hope that his country would witness another sustainable “fairy story” by hosting the tournament and repeating the success of the 2006 World Cup in Germany..
“It can’t be planned, but writing another fictional story is what everyone wants,” Philip Lamm told dpa.
He added: “We can emphasize on our part the good organization and modern organization, and in all respects it is now certainly greater than it was in 2006.”
The Germans called the German national team’s surprise third place in the 2006 World Cup on home soil, the term “a summer fairy tale”, due to the performance of the team and the festive atmosphere that witnessed all over Germany.
Philip Lamm participated in that edition of the World Cup, and was crowned with the national team in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, but he is now responsible for organizing the European Nations Cup (Euro 2024) and his focus is also on matters outside the field.
Philip Lamm, 38, stressed that sustainability has become an important aspect that must be addressed.
Philip Lamm said: “After the World Cup in Russia (2018), the Olympics in China, the European Nations Cup that was held in different countries and in light of the pandemic crisis, and then the World Cup (2022) was held in Qatar in the winter, I think people in Europe are looking forward To such a football celebration in the heart of Europe.”
