Austrian Philipp Eng won the 75th edition of the 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps together with German Marco Wittmann and Briton Nick Yelloly in the BMW M4 GT3.

After 537 laps, the trio had a lead of 11.129 seconds on the Mercedes around Jules Gounon, who is starting for Andorra. Eng had already triumphed in Spa in 2016. DTM leader Thomas Preining finished fifth together with Laurin Heinrich (GER) and Dennis Olsen (NOR) in the Porsche.

Mourning for young talent

The event was overshadowed by the fatal accident of 18-year-old racing driver Dilano van’t Hoff on Saturday. The Dutchman’s car was hit by another racing car following it spun on a wet track during a race in the European junior series Formula Regional. At the end of the month, Formula 1 will be making a guest appearance on the traditional circuit in the Ardennes.
