Philipp Eng on Nyck de Vries: “Magnificent performance” / Formula 1

Austrian Formula 1 expert Philipp Eng spoke highly of Nyck de Vries’ GP debut on Sunday in Monza. He praised the Dutchman for his Williams performance.

As part of the sports program “Sport & Talk from Hangar-7” on ServusTV, TV expert Philipp Eng spoke regarding Formula 1 in Monza on Monday. The new hopeful Nyck de Vries, who drove the Williams on P9 at the GP debut as a substitute for the sick Alex Albon, was also an issue. The Dutchman moved Sebastian Vettel’s Aston Martin racer in the first practice session on Friday.

“It was madness. You can’t take your hat off enough,” enthused Eng. “It was a completely different car, you have to see it that way. You can’t move from one car to another and everything feels natural. It’s a different seating positions and more. De Vries was completely thrown in at the deep end. The fact that he can then score two points is a terrific achievement. »

Regarding the problems getting out of the car – the Dutchman had severe arm cramps in parc fermé and even asked for help from the team – Eng says: “Of course you prepare yourself, with shoulder and neck training. But if you don’t drive often enough, that doesn’t help much.”

And the Salzburg DTM driver says: “I would really like him to be able to drive more often. If I were the team boss, I would put him in the car right away. It’s not good for Nicolas Latifi either.”
