Major General Ish-Shalom left behind his wife Carmit and their three children: Yotam (13.5) and the twins Mia and Gaya (11.5). Tom, was born in Kibbutz Hanita and grew up and was educated in Kfar Varedim. After 7.10 Tom, who had already moved to the status of a formation carrier in the unit, volunteered to return to activity operational and served from the beginning of the war until today. He will be laid to rest at 18:00 in the military section at Ness Harim Regional Cemetery.

According to his friends in the Nes Harim settlement, Tom was clear that when the state and the people needed him, he would be there. His friends also said that “Tom was an amazing father, to his son Yotam who just recently celebrated a Bar Mitzvah and to the twins Mia and Gaia, a pampering, investing, enveloping father who loved his children and Carmit with rare intensity.”

Tom and Carmit chose to live in Nes Harim, it was important to them to live in a mixed religious-secular settlement, as a message of connection and unity.

In the Yishuv they also say that Tom was “a true friend, who was always happy to lend a hand and help, give and contribute, all with a smile, kindness and a lot of joy in life. Tom, who was talented in so many fields, always maintained modesty and humility. About Tom that characterized him so much. Tom loved the sea, diving, sailing and kayaking, he loved to travel around Israel. We lost a beloved, rare and precious friend.”

“Daniel had a constant smile and light in his eyes”

Sergeant Major Elosh left behind his wife Kim and two children. The Tel Aviv Municipality paid tribute to him: “How sad. Daniel, a fighter in the rescue and rescue unit 669, father of two small children. We send his family on behalf of all residents of Tel Aviv-Yafo a big hug and a big thank you for his courage. His funeral will be held tomorrow and the municipality will accompany the family as long as necessary. Our hearts are also with the family of Tom Ish-Shalom, the other person killed in the incident. Speedy recovery to all the injured.”

Ariel Rindman, family member: “The heart is broken, the tears are choking. Dear Daniel Elosh, son of the beloved Jacob and Sigal, was killed in the helicopter disaster. Daniel was an amazing guy who always smiled and had a huge heart. May his memory be blessed, Hero of Israel.”

Elad ben David, who guided Elosh in the Scouts, paid tribute to him: “My Scout trainee is a reservist who was killed in Gaza. And suddenly pictures of a 10-year-old boy, with the biggest smile and the brightest eyes I’ve ever known, are mixed with a picture of a helicopter upside down in the main headline of the news sites. And the connection What is created between the Philadelphia axis and the ceremony square in the tribe’s basketball court is heartbreaking, with childhood memories that flow into this horrible reality of war. And all the attempts to repress, to move the war there and to concentrate on life as a language, do not succeed.

“And then you remember that this 10-year-old boy was already taller than you, stronger than you and more of a hero than you, and he is the father of two small children, with the same smile and the same sparkle in his eyes. You look at the pictures of him walking with his childhood friends from the group you coached, and you remember how this boy , who used to be barely up to your waist, would put your shoulder into his armpit in half-hugs that you would give at meetings in the neighborhood. And he had a million circles closer than you and you have circles closer than him, but the pain hit home this time, and you can’t suppress it anymore.

“And how can a 10-year-old boy in a scout uniform be a 37-year-old father in an army uniform, and how can the joy of the children who played in the grove yesterday continue to exist with the children who will grow up without a father tomorrow.
And what a great boy he was, playful, sharp and sensitive and attentive. And how ‘he always takes the best’ turned from the annual cliché of Memorial Day ceremonies at the basketball court in Scouts into a wound in the heart of how true it is.
The late Daniel Elosh, I will miss the great boy you were and the great man who had so much more to be.”

His classmate Hadar Segal wrote: “Daniel Alosh was a classmate at Alliance High School in Ramat Aviv. An amazing person. Smart. Athlete. Loved by everyone. How sad and heartbreaking to hear about his fall in the helicopter disaster tonight in Rafah. I will remember him forever. My heart goes out to his family, may his memory be blessed”

MK Merav Ben Ari, who previously taught Elosh at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, wrote: “Our dear and beloved Elosh.” My student, and years later a friend and neighbor, Kimi’s husband and Niko and Tommy’s father, you are not the salt of the earth, you are a coarse salt, with a constant smile, light in your eyes, a perfect father and a wonderful partner. I see your name and picture and I can’t believe it. We are all sad , shocked. My sincere condolences to the Ish Shalom family.”

The cause of the crash is under investigation

In the severe incident in the Gaza Strip, an “Owl” helicopter of the Air Force, which was on a mission to evacuate a wounded person tonight (between Tuesday and Wednesday), crashed in the Rafah area during the final landing process. From a preliminary investigation, it appears that the crash was not caused by enemy fire. The cause of the crash is still being investigated.

State President Yitzhak Herzog commented on the disaster at the end of his meeting with the President of Serbia: “A difficult and painful morning for the State of Israel, in which dear and beloved sons fell in battle, leaving behind families whose worlds were shattered in an instant. I hereby strongly condemn the criminal terrorist attack, and of course express deep sorrow for its results. I am calling from here, to the leaders of Europe and the entire world in general, to mobilize and fight together against terrorism.”
