The Philadelphia Eagles consolidated their top position on the twelfth day of the National Football League (NFL). The team around young star Jalen Hurts held the Green Bay Packers at a distance of 40:33 on Sunday evening and celebrated their tenth win with only one defeat.
The key to success for the Eagles was not only the defense, which twice took the ball from Green Bay, but above all the running game. Philadelphia gained a total of 363 yards on the ground. Hurts, who also threw two touchdown passes, rushed for 157 yards, setting a new Eagles club record and the fifth-best mark for a quarterback in NFL history.
Packers superstar injured
On the other hand, the Packers not only lost their eighth game, but also superstar Aaron Rodgers. The 38-year-old, who was named the most valuable player of the season four times, retired with a suspected rib injury. Rodgers had already played the past seven games with a broken thumb.
In addition to the Packers, the Los Angeles Rams also have little chance of making the playoffs. The defending champion had to admit defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs with 10:26 and thus also conceded the eighth defeat with only three victories.
