Philadelphia Eagles Coaches Depart After Super Bowl Loss: Insights on Jonathan Gannon and Shane Steichen’s New Coaching Roles

The Philadelphia Eagles lost two of their coaches following losing to the Kansas City Chiefs (35:38) in the Super Bowl.

Jonathan Gannon, previously responsible for defense of the Eagles, will become the new head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. There, the 40-year-old follows Kliff Kingsburg, from whom the Cardinals parted ways in January following a disappointing season. For Gannon it is the first station as head coach.

In addition to Gannon, offensive coordinator Shane Steichen is also leaving the Eagles to head the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts had previously conducted an extensive head coach search and interviewed numerous candidates. Interim coach Jeff Saturday was also considered a serious candidate until the very end.

In the end, however, the choice fell on Steichen, who might only be committed following the Super Bowl: Steichen’s offense put up 417 yards and 35 points once morest the Chiefs, it was the last exclamation mark following an impressive season.

Steichen, who had already helped Justin Herbert to his excellent rookie season in Los Angeles, managed to adapt the offense to Jalen Hurt’s skillset with the Eagles. The profile of the Colts, who will presumably choose their new quarterback in the upcoming draft, should also be wide open.

Steichen, 37, is the 22nd head coach in Colts history. He is Indianapolis’ next head coach following Frank Reich, who previously served as the Eagles’ offensive coordinator.
