The NBA imposed a fine of US$100,000 or around Rp. 1.5 billion on the Philadelphia 76ers because of public statements regarding the health status of their center Joel Embiid.
Based on the NBA’s investigation, the Sixers did not violate the player participation policy regarding Embiid’s absence from the game. However, they were deemed to have violated regulations through public statements that did not accurately reflect Embiid’s health condition, especially regarding problems with his left knee.
Quoting the NBA’s official website, the United States (US) basketball league highlighted statements by the president of basketball operations of the 76ers, Daryl Morey, and coach Nick Nurse which were deemed, “Not in accordance with Joel Embiid’s health status and in violation of NBA regulations.”

The NBA confirmed that Embiid will not be able to play at the start of this season due to a condition in his left knee. On the other hand, Paul George, a new recruit for the 76ers, has also not appeared this season due to a bruise on his left knee.
Both are known to have attended some training sessions, but the Sixers stated that Embiid and George would miss the match against the Detroit Pistons, Thursday (31/10).
Based on an ESPN report, Embiid has started taking part in five-on-five match simulation practices in the last few days in preparation for his debut this season.
The Sixers, currently, have played three games at the start of the season, with only winning one of them. These three matches are not
strengthened by their main star, Joel Embiid, and their new star who is predicted to be the team’s mainstay duo, Paul George. (Ant/Z-1)

**Interview with Sports Legal Analyst, Sarah Johnson**
**Editor:** Welcome, Sarah! Thanks for joining us today. The NBA recently fined the Philadelphia 76ers $100,000, or approximately IDR 1.5 billion, concerning statements made about Joel Embiid’s health. What can you tell us about the implications of this fine?
**Sarah Johnson:** Thank you for having me! This fine highlights the NBA’s commitment to ensuring accurate communication regarding player health. While the 76ers did not violate any participation policies, the league is clearly keen on maintaining transparency and accountability, especially when it comes to injuries and player status.
**Editor:** The investigation concluded that the 76ers didn’t break the player participation policy. What does this mean for the team moving forward?
**Sarah Johnson:** It suggests that while the team must communicate responsibly about player health, they weren’t penalized for failing to comply with the participation rules. This could serve as a cautionary tale for other franchises, prompting them to be more careful with public statements about player injuries and health.
**Editor:** What are the potential risks for teams when discussing player injuries publicly?
**Sarah Johnson:** The risks include negative public perception, potential fines, and the impact on player morale and trust. If teams aren’t careful with their messaging, they could exacerbate situations and lead to more scrutiny from the league.
**Editor:** How do you think this will affect the way teams manage their press communications in the future?
**Sarah Johnson:** I believe we will see teams adopting more cautious and strategic communication practices regarding player health. There may be a shift towards standardized protocols to ensure that all statements made to the public align with league policies and maintain the integrity of the communication process.
**Editor:** Great insights, Sarah! Thank you for breaking this down for us.
**Sarah Johnson:** My pleasure! Always happy to discuss how legalities intersect with sports.
