Pharmacy Recall: Nitrosamines Detected in Accuzide

According to the RHB, bottlenecks are expected due to the nationwide recall. Pfizer is currently unable to say when Accuzide will be available once more. Healthcare professionals are encouraged to advise patients taking Accuzide not to stop taking the supplement on their own, but to discuss any questions and concerns with them.

Since the summer of 2018, when sartans were recalled across the board because of nitrosamine contamination, there have been repeated drug recalls for this reason. True to the motto “who seeks shall find”. Nitrosamines are classified as human carcinogens. They can get into pharmaceuticals in a number of ways, for example during synthesis, through contaminated water or as degradation products. They can increase the risk of cancer when people are exposed to them above acceptable levels for long periods of time. In addition to medicines, they are also found in many foods such as grilled meat.
