More than 50 professionals from the Spanish Society of Pharmacogenetics and Pharmacogenomics (SEFF) are working together and in a coordinated manner in all the necessary stages so that Pharmacogenetics can become a reality in our NHS. With this objective, work on the creation of recommendations that facilitate the implementation of this specialty in clinical practice throughout Spain.
For this, the SEFF has established four working groups that throughout this year will collaborate in the Clinical implementation strategy of Pharmacogenetics. This aims to standardize the procedures that ensure and homogenize the quality and interpretation of the analytical tests. Also the clinical recommendations associated with each of these drugs. All this within the framework of the existing regulation in Spain and the European Union.
Implement Pharmacogenetics in Spain
In addition, the SEFF has launched three programs (Proficiency testing, Map of laboratories and Pharmacogenetics services, and Teaching-training) to, respectively, determine the analytical quality of the genetic tests developed. The objective is to enable the implementation of quality standards that harmonize the activity of the laboratories. Likewise, it tries to offer society an updated registry of accredited laboratories and Pharmacogenetics and Pharmacogenomics care services in Spain. Likewise, it seeks to transmit the information, both in the scientific and biosanitary environment and at an informative level.
Specifically, the Teaching-training group will be in charge of organizing a series of webinars in the coming months to publicize the recommendations that are generated and disseminate the pharmacogenetic analyzes recommended for each of the drugs analyzed.
Subsequently, the SEFF, in collaboration with other clinical Societies, intends to develop a joint therapeutic guide. It will be oriented to the use of drugs within the context of specific pathologies. In this way, the SEFF seeks to become a fundamental element in the Spanish Strategy for Personalized Medicine launched by the Government in September 2020.
