Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, PAMI’s 100% plans will begin to be served by reimbursement in the pharmacies of Río Negro. Initially the measure also affected Ipross, But social work authorities of the provincial State activated negotiations and at the last minute it was announced that the attention to members will not be altered.
The restrictions were made official early on Tuesday followingnoon by the province’s College of Pharmacists, warning that “they will be extended until the social work authorities respond to the repeated queries and proposals from the representatives of the Board of Directors.”
The origin of the conflict is in the prices of medicines, which increased in December at a speed much higher than the times and amounts recognized by PAMI and Ipross, aggravating a scenario that had already been complex since November.
From Ipross, now led by Marcela Ávila, they presented a debt regularization plan, which was accepted and that is why it was announced a few hours before the start of the measure that the attention for its members will be normal.
“Pharmacies are not responsible for distortions that the medicine market passes through, they are, together with the patient, the last link in the chain. We share our daily lives with all the neighbors, and therefore this decision is very difficult for us, but we cannot find an answer to the current situation,” they said in a statement from the entity that brings together professionals from all over the territory.
That circular adds that “we have jointly proposed various solutions (shortening cancellation periods to 15 days, eliminating bonuses, etc.) to sustain pharmaceutical care in this difficult economic context,” but “With inflation at 1% daily it is extremely complex for all Rio Negro pharmacies to sustain the financing of medications, and therefore we must take care of the continuity over time of each pharmacy in Rio Negro.”
The measure will not affect the majority of members of the state social works, but the impact will not be in the volume but in the sensitive group found within the plans with 100% coverage in remedies. Is regarding people with long-term illnesseswhose medication is generally very expensive and that is why they have full coverage.
Medicines and their escalating prices
According to records provided by professionals in the sector, price escalation is already close to 100% in the last two months alonetaking into account that on November 1, increases of 15% were recorded, which two weeks later were repeated in a similar proportion.
At the end of November there were more increases – of 23% on average – and only with these movements did many pharmacies become complicated from a financial point of view, with restricted credit in drugstores.
“Many pharmacies are paying interest to drugstores for delays and that is why several have recently decided to restrict care through social work,” industry leaders said at the time.
But what came next was even more difficult, since the increases in drug prices were 40% to 50% so far in December, as reported today by College sources consulted by RÍO NEGRO Newspaper.
The entity also announced that, if they do not have favorable responses, “next week all social security might be suspended.”
It was also noted that Other social works and prepaid medicine companies are not exempt from changes in the coverage system, since they did not react in a timely manner to the requests to comply with the corresponding payments.
“They are unpleasant decisions, which we do not like to make, but they have left all avenues closed to us and we have been betting on dialogue for more than a month, but without any response,” they indicated from the College.
