PGR challenges the Court’s decision on the murder case in Nzeto – news

The Attorney General’s Office (PGR), in the province of Zaire, formalized, a few days ago, at the Mbanza Kongo District Court, a process of challenging the judicial decision to release three main suspects in the death, by hanging, of a under nine years of age, which occurred in June 2020, in the village of Nzeto

The fact was announced this Thursday, in the city of Soyo, by the deputy attorney general of the Republic of the province of Zaire, António Domingos Espanhol, on the sidelines of the 4th expanded meeting of the Northern Judicial Region of the PGR, which covers the provinces of Zaire, Bengo, Cabinda, Uíge, Cuanza Norte and Malanje.

Speaking to the press, the Public Prosecutor’s Office magistrate explained that the alleged perpetrators, who were detained in the Nkiende prison, in Mbanza Kongo, were released for allegedly exceeding the pre-trial detention period.

According to the deputy attorney general of the Republic of Zaire, it concerns Conceição João Pereira, mother of the victim and main suspect, the officer of the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), intendant Afonso Mbiavanga Nzuzi, and the former director general of the Nzeto Municipal Hospital, Kavungu Nzuzi Júnior.

“The process of reviewing the case is underway, to assess the arguments of reason evoked by the judge in the case for the release of the accused”, he stressed.

He explained that the PGR in the region sent to the Guarantee judge, in June this year, the process of extending the period of preventive detention for another two months, following the end of the first four months fixed, in order to complement the elements of the procedural instruction .

Also known as the “Ema” case, this child’s body was found hanging from one of the trees in the backyard where he lived with his mother with signs of sexual violation.
