PGM-Fire Department reminded that with the approach of summer, dry grass can ignite even with the smallest spark, and reiterated that it is forbidden to light any kind of fire between May 1st and October 31st.

PGM-Fire Brigade Directorate made a statement with the headline “Let’s prevent fires by taking precautions on time” and said, “Let’s not forget that with the approach of summer, dry grass can ignite from even the smallest spark. We remind you that it is forbidden to light any kind of fire, even for cleaning purposes, between 1 May and 31 October for any purpose.

PGM-Fire Brigade Directorate called on the public to inform 199 firefighters, 155 police helplines or 177 forest fire lines without delay when any signs of fire or smoke are observed, saying, “Let’s not forget that the fire lit in areas that are not suitable for starting a fire can go beyond our control and cause undesirable results.” found.

In the statement of the PGM-Fire Brigade Directorate, the following reminders were made to the public by saying “let’s not forget”:

(1) It is forbidden to light a fire between 1 May and 31 October.

(2) Never throw the butt of the cigarette you smoke into the environment while you are on the road with your vehicle or when you are in open areas, fields and especially in forest areas.

(3) During the harvest periods, make sure that the electrical and mechanical components are maintained and serviced by checking the agricultural vehicles you use on time, and that their exhausts are sound and in working condition.

(4) Remember that sparks from vehicle exhaust can destroy a fortune.

(5) It will be beneficial for the first response to the fire if you have one 6 kg dry chemical fire extinguisher for the agricultural vehicles you use, and one 2 kg dry chemical powder type fire extinguisher for the private or work vehicles.

(6) While working with the spiral (izmirillo) and welding machine, take care to clean the dry grass and other materials around the area to be worked. Do not forget that our crops and bales may ignite and burn due to sparks from such tools, or the fire may spread to lands or forested areas with the burning of dry grass. When such works are to be carried out, fire extinguisher and fire extinguishing tools and equipment must be available.

(7) When you see a dangerous substation, electricity pole, electrical wires in contact with each other, as well as tree branches that may fall on the electrical wires in bad weather conditions, call the “188 Electrical Failure” reporting line and inform the authorities.

(8) Never light a fire, even for cleaning purposes. Clean the weeds around your homes and workplaces by removing or maintaining them.

(9) Inform the relevant municipality for the removal of dry grass or pruning of trees that come into contact with electrical wires.

(10) It will be in your best interest to have a 6 kg capacity multi-purpose dry chemical powder or 3 kg capacity carbon dioxide type fire extinguisher in your home and workplace, which is regularly maintained and checked, in order to take first action once morest possible fires.

(11) Opening a strip of at least 3-4 meters wide around the cultivated areas in the lands close to the forests and the roadside will prevent a possible fire from spreading to such places.

(12) Do not light a fire and have a picnic, except in the places where picnic can be made with fire in the forest areas.

(13) Do not pour it into garbage bins or anywhere in picnic areas or in your homes without making sure that the charcoal is completely extinguished.

PGM-Fire Brigade Directorate stated that some measures might contribute to the prevention of fires, and these measures were listed as follows:

•Cleaning around solid waste storage facilities;

•Cleaning of areas used as junkyards and their surroundings;

•Cleaning around the dump sites created in industrial areas;

•Cleaning the area around the dumping sites;

•Cleaning around and inside of power plants and transformers;

• Creation of fire protection strip under high voltage lines;

•Cleaning the surroundings of Liquid Oil Gas storage areas;

•Timely cleaning of roadsides and medians;

•If the lands near the residential areas are cleared by the owners on time, a possible fire will prevent a possible danger before it grows.”
