PFAS contamination: Braine-Le-Comte advises against the consumption of tap water in Ronquières

Following tests of tap water in Ronquières, it emerged that the level of PFAS per liter was close to the maximum value which will come into force in 2026.

The City of Braine-le-Comte recommends that the inhabitants of Ronquières do not drink tap water while awaiting new analysis results regarding its PFAS content, the Brain authorities indicated on Wednesday.

“The results obtained on November 15 show that the PFAS content of the water distributed in Ronquières, i.e. 97 nanograms per liter, is lower than the maximum admissible value in water intended for human consumption which will be 100 nanograms per liter in 2026. liter”, indicated the Brainois authorities.

The results obtained being below the threshold of the future standard of 2026, the SWDE does not currently plan to organize distribution of alternative means in Ronquières. “However, in order to best support the citizens of the village, and more particularly the people at risk mentioned in the SWDE press release, a distribution will be offered as soon as possible by the City, at its expense, for Ronquiérois wishing to to obtain water from another source”, indicated the municipal authorities.

The city of Braine-Le-Comte is also continuing its action which requests, among other things, that the SWDE and Vivaqua quickly take operational measures to reduce the level of PFAS in the water distributed in Ronquières.

The municipalities of Braine-le-Comte, Hennuyères, Henripont, Petit-Roeulx and Steenkerque are not directly affectedbeing supplied by other catchment areas.
