The head of the department said he spoke with the governor of Rio de Janeiro and assured that the Civil Police are also investigating the case.

The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, stated, this Thursday (05), that the Federal Police will take steps to investigate the “execution” of three doctors this morning, in Rio de Janeiro.

On social media, the head of the department said that he spoke with the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, and assured that the Civil Police is also investigating the case.

“Executive Secretary of the MJ, Ricardo Cappelli, will go to Rio and meet with the PF leadership and the State government. I’m going to Bahia, to reinforce actions there. I reiterate my solidarity with the families of all the victims,” he wrote.

As determined by the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat, the São Paulo Civil Police will send teams from the State Department of Homicide and Personal Protection and the Civil Police Intelligence Department (Dipol) to Rio de Janeiro to assist in investigations

Doctors Diego Ralf Bomfim, Marcos de Andrade Corsato and Perseu Ribeiro Almeida worked outside the state of Rio de Janeiro and were in the city to participate in an international orthopedic surgery congress.

They were murdered when they were in a kiosk, on the edge of Barra da Tijuca, in the west of the city, close to the hotel where the event takes place. A fourth doctor, orthopedist Daniel Sonnewend Proença, was injured and was taken to Lourenço Jorge Municipal Hospital, in Barra da Tijuca.

Diego Bomfim is the brother of federal deputy Sâmia Bomfim (PSOL-SP) and brother-in-law of federal deputy Glauber Braga (PSOL-RJ).

Repercussion

The President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, also spoke out on his social networks, saying that he received the news of the doctors’ execution “with great sadness and indignation”.

The governor of Rio de Janeiro wrote on his networks that he ordered the Secretary of Civil Police to use “all necessary resources to determine the authorship of the barbaric crime”:

“I contacted the Minister of Justice, Flavio Dino, who made the Federal Police available for investigations. Let’s join forces to reach the motivation and the authors. This crime will not go unpunished!”

Federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL-SP), a supporter of Sâmia Bomfim, and senator Randolfe Rodrigues (Rede-AP) also classified the murders as brutal crimes and, in their networks, expressed solidarity with Sâmia.
