247 — The Federal Police discovered signs of crimes once morest the public administration related to the jewelry presented by Saudi Arabia to former president Jair Bolsonaro and former first lady Michelle, which were brought to Brazil by members of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, inform Aguirre talent, not wow.
The PF’s Corregedoria-Geral issued an order in Brasília ordering the opening of an investigation, since the initial indications suggest the possibility of crimes once morest the public administration, to the detriment of the Union.
In response to the investigation request made by Minister Flávio Dino, the dispatch of the Internal Affairs Office, issued last Monday (6), highlights:
“The initial indications allow us to conclude that there is a need for a better investigation, as determined by Hon. Minister of Justice, mainly because there is the possibility of committing possible crimes once morest the public administration, committed to the detriment of goods, interest or service of the Union, pursuant to art. 144, § 1 of the Federal Constitution”.
The assessment by the Internal Affairs Office also highlights that there are two sets of jewelry involved, one of which, consisting of a diamond necklace, earrings and a women’s watch, was seized in October 2021 from an advisor to the Minister of Mines and Energy. This set of jewels was appraised by the Federal Revenue Service at R$ 16.5 million. The second set of jewelry, a men’s watch, pen and cufflinks, entered Brazil in the luggage of former minister Bento Albuquerque.
The PF investigation will initially address crimes of embezzlement and administrative advocacy, but may be expanded to other crimes. The suspicion is that the employees of the delegation from the Ministry of Mines and Energy who tried to enter Brazil with the jewels without declaring them to the Federal Revenue may have committed the crime of embezzlement, while administrative law will be investigated in relation to the employees of the Palácio do Planalto who mobilized the government structure to try to release the jewels.
The PF has already subpoenaed former Minister of Mines and Energy Bento Albuquerque, his former adviser Marcos Soeiro and a third member of the entourage, diplomat Christian Vargas. The investigation will also include documentary evidence, such as the letters exchanged by the public administration and videos from the internal circuit of the Guarulhos airport that show the episode.
Those involved deny wrongdoing, but the investigation continues.
