Petro’s campaign had to delete the viral video in which he used the image and music of Karol G

A new controversy confronts the Historic Pact campaign, following last Wednesday, May 11, Senators Roy Barreras and Armando Benedetti shared a video through their official Twitter accounts in which they extended the invitation to vote for Gustavo Petro.

There is no doubt that the publication achieved its goal, drawing the attention of users of the social network, since the video, which soon went viral, used the music and image of the renowned Colombian artist Karol G.

The congressmen, who adhered to the political program of the Pact following resigning from the La U party, they incited citizens to vote for the left-wing candidate ‘to the rhythm of reggaeton’, altering the lyrics of the popular song by the paisa singer: ‘MAMIII’.

However, following the campaign made the video viral, they had to download it from the social network Twitter, following users and followers of the artist questioned the use of Karol G’s image for political purposes, and even mentioned that might lead to legal consequences.

“@karolg They are using your image for this. I don’t think you authorized it “, is one of the comments found in the publication that continues on Benedetti’s profile.

“@karolg they are using your image to do politics,” @laurafernand__ wrote.

It should be said that there is still no official statement from the artist, who has remained on the sidelines of politics. However, hours following the video was made known, Roy Barreras decided to remove it from his official Twitter profile.

The montage uses different resources, such as news captures, images of representative figures from the right (Iván Duque, Álvaro Uribe, among others), videos of politicians from various sectors, as well as some people following the dance steps of a trend (referring to trends in apps like TikTok).

Equally, ‘Bichota’ appears, apparently, interpreting a song once morest political sectors such as Uribismo and the Team for Colombia, whose candidate is Federico Gutiérrez.

One of the most noticeable elements in the video editing is the change in the original lyrics of the song. “You do not let yourself be bought, nor your vote taken away, because with this government we are not going anymore. For Petro you have to vote, this time make no mistake. This government of Duque must not continue”, says one of the phrases that were included on the musical track.

In addition, the lyrics once once more emphasize what Petro himself said at some point: “receive the money, but vote for Petro”, a phrase that many politicians have criticized, assuring that it is an invitation for voters to fall into the crime of constraint to the voter in the condition of accomplices.

Despite the controversy that the video has caused, on his official Twitter account, Senator Armando Benedetti still retains the tweet in which he responds to the publication made by Roy Barreras. “To the rhythm of Karol G, vote for @petrogustavo,” he tweeted.

‘Change in first’

The mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero Calle, published this Monday, May 9, a suggestive video on his Twitter account that many interpret as participation in politics.

In the clip, which lasts only five seconds, the local president appears driving a vehicle. The image shows Quintero with one hand on the rudder and the other moving the gear lever. Later, he says “shift into first.”

Users of social networks have interpreted the clip as an alleged veiled support by Quintero for candidate Gustavo Petro, whose campaign slogan is “change for life.” After the publication of this video, the news of the suspension of his position for three months became known.
