However, sources say that the price of petrol may increase from Rs 2 and a half to Rs 80 paise per litre. The price of high speed diesel is expected to increase by 8 to 8 and a half rupees per liter.

Unofficial reports further claim that the government is considering increasing the petroleum levy from Rs 60 to Rs 100 per liter while the current levy is already at a maximum of Rs 60 per litre. But there is no immediate increase in this regard.

The government is expected to announce the new prices of petroleum products on April 15.

According to the adjustment of exchange rate, the price of high speed diesel may increase by 8 to 8 and a half rupees per litre. Current rate of high speed diesel at depot stage is Rs 282 24 paise.

Last week, the price of petrol in the world market increased by 4 dollars per barrel and the price of high-speed diesel by 4 and a half dollars per barrel, following which their prices became 98 dollars 50 cents per barrel and 102 dollars 90 cents per barrel, respectively. .

According to the promise made to the International Monetary Fund, the government has set a revenue budget of 869 billion rupees through petroleum levy in the current financial year. 475 billion rupees were collected in July-December petroleum levy. The revised target is 920 billion rupees, but it is estimated that the government will be able to collect a total of 970 billion rupees. At present, the government is charging a tax of Rs 82 per liter on petrol and diesel.
