Petro, Uribe and Felipe Córdoba ended up united to choose the next comptroller

Today will be the election of Comptroller General of the Republic and there will be no surprises. Carlos Hernan Rodriguezwho just two weeks ago had no chance of winning, only figured in the calculations of this Report, will finally be chosen.

The miracle happened because President Gustavo Petro flagrantly failed to fulfill one of his candidate promises.

He had said that he rejected the cooptation of the control organisms by the previous government. Iván Duque came to have a Prosecutor’s Office, an Attorney’s Office, an Ombudsman’s Office and a Comptroller’s Office. All the control organisms in the hands of his allies, chosen by the support of his government. To achieve these elections he used the resources of the State. Petro said he would never do something like that, but he is. The next comptroller will owe him the position and the parties of the government coalition, in turn, received positions in the same meetings in which Petro asked them to vote for “the most qualified.”

In context:

Carlos Hernán Rodríguez became the government’s favorite by carom, when they might not put the candidate Julio César Cárdenas on the list despite having tried. The knowledge test score did not reach Dr. Cárdenas.

On the other hand the magnificent exam presented by Carlos Hernán Rodríguez and the particular way of qualifying and averaging an interview, invented without legal basis by the second accidental commission created by bishops of the new government, consolidated him as first and lowered his contender a little. For example Senator Alexander López, without any problem, gave his candidate Carlos Hernán Rodríguez 100 points out of a possible 100 and 0 to its competitor Maria Fernanda Rangel.

On August 5, two days before the inauguration, the frantic campaign for Carlos Hernán Rodríguez began. President Petro himself, accompanied by Alfonso Prada, who would be his interior minister, met with the liberal emissaries: Lidio García, Andrés Calle and Simón Gaviria to talk to them regarding the cabinet and the comptroller. From there came the ministries of housing and justice.

the pe men, Petro and Prada also met with Dilian Francisca Toro from the U partywith whom they spoke regarding the ICT ministry and the comptroller.

They ended the day meeting with conservative senator Carlos Eduardo Trujillo, head of that party, with whom they spoke regarding the ministry of transportation and the comptroller.

in all conversations the little subtle wink was that you had to vote for the one with the highest score And welcome to the government.

Then the interior minister Alfonso Prada, the secretary general of the Presidency Mauricio Lizcano and the president of the Senate Roy Barreras did their thing. They worked like clockwork in persuading the benches. Nothing different from what governments have always done. Namely, here there was no change.

The campaign took almost 10 days and the favorite of that moment, María Fernanda Rangel, who was blamed for being the candidate of Comptroller Carlos Felipe Córdoba, saw her support go from more than 200 congressmen to practically zero due to the Petro government steamroller, that is, the steamroller of the national budget.

That steamroller put together strange couples who came together to choose Carlos Hernán Rodríguez:

– Senator Gustavo Bolívar ended up associated with his arch-rival Roy Barreras, protesting the methods but with the same candidate.

– The Historical Pact of Gustavo Petro united with the Democratic Center of Álvaro Uribe.

– The left in common cause with the registrar Alexander Vega, who a few weeks ago was accused of wanting to steal the elections.

– Dilian Francisca Toro embracing Senator Alexander López with whom he will probably dispute the governorship of Valle del Cauca next year.

– The Christians of Mira with Angélica Lozano and Claudia López.

– Cathy Juvinao who denounced the alleged academic inconsistencies of former senator Julián Bedoya in fraternal alliance with him to put control. The questioned former senator Bedoya was the one who turned on the liberal bench despite what former president Gaviria said.

All of them proclaiming as a great change the election as Comptroller General of a local politician from the Valley, a former electoral partner of the dismissed ex-governor Juan Carlos Abadía, of his father Carlos Herney Abadía, sentenced in the 8,000 process, and of the convicted parapolitician Juan Carlos Martínez.

The most curious of all is that the campaign was animated by the slogan of blocking the path of outgoing comptroller Pipe Córdoba. But, be amazed, Córdoba in the last few hours has been helping Carlos Hernán Rodríguez get the last votes.

They they ended up talking and understanding each other.

Rodríguez and his predecessor have known each other for a long time. Carlos Hernán Rodríguez was general auditor in replacement of Carlos Felipe Córdoba and his management did not make him uncomfortable.

at the moment of truth, Comptroller Córdoba left with Rodríguez and María Fernanda Rangel, who in theory was his candidate, was left immensely alone. With the sin, without the gender and above all without the votes that at this time are with her rival.

The poet Antonio Machado said: “In politics only those who put the candle where the air blows triumph; never who pretends that the air blows where he puts the candle ”.
