The president of ColombiaGustavo Petro urged the Venezuelan government to allow the elections to conclude peacefully, with a transparent electoral scrutiny that includes the counting of votes, minutes and the participation of observers from all political forces in the country and professional international observers.
Petro stressed that there is polarization in the country due to doubts about the electoral process.
“We respectfully propose reaching an agreement between the government and the opposition that allows for maximum respect for the force that lost the elections. This agreement can be submitted as a Unilateral State Declaration to the United Nations Security Council,” said the Colombian president.
He also asked the United States government to suspend the blockades and measures against Venezuelan citizens.
“Anything that happens in Venezuela will affect Colombia and vice versa. As the Venezuelan government has helped bring peace to Colombia, now this government that I represent wants to help bring peace to Venezuela,” he said on social media.
