Petro announces a “coup d’état”

BOGOTÁ (EFE).— The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, affirmed yesterday that the alleged coup d’état against him, which he has been talking about, will begin the day after tomorrow and that is why this weekend a popular assembly will reaffirm its support.

“On Monday the tie-breaker begins. On Saturday (today) we will see the national popular assembly at the National University,” the head of state wrote in his X account.

Today and tomorrow at the National University in Bogotá, under the premise “Yes to democracy, no to the coup!”, the sectors related to Petro will meet to debate the axes that “will strengthen the ‘Government of Change’ in the time that remains” and how to “face the coup d’état by the right.”

“I believe that we are going to live the days of a historic popular decision. If we return to the past of the shooting of young people and the enormous theft of the State or if we commit ourselves to democracy, peace and life,” Petro added in his publication.

Hours before, also on his X account, Petro warned that the “coup d’état” he speaks of would be institutional and not military.

“No friends, the coup will not be carried out with soldiers, who all have the order of their constitutional commander not to raise a single weapon against the people. It will happen with ties and desks and this is the proof. “They had to unconstitutionally remove the president’s power to start the coup and it begins on Monday,” he said.

Petro accompanied his message with a photo of the agenda of the National Electoral Council that can investigate possible irregularities in the financing of the campaign that brought him to office, which he considers a conspiracy to remove him from power, and he even spoke of a plan to assassinate him. , of which he said on Thursday: “the order has been given.”
