Fifty-one-year-old Petra Cílová is facing an arduous battle against colon cancer. Despite enduring multiple surgeries and rounds of chemotherapy as her initial diagnosis in 2021, the disease has unfortunately progressed. Now, her friend Renata Johanovská is spearheading a fundraising campaign to help Petra access potentially life-saving treatment abroad.
“Petra is a wonderful mother of two adult daughters, a caring wife, and a great fighter!” shares johanovská.”She needs our collective support to finance treatment abroad for her next fight.”
Initially, it seemed Petra was overcoming the disease. Her initial surgeries, including procedures on her intestines, liver, and gallbladder, coupled wiht chemotherapy, appeared prosperous. “Nothing broke her,” recalls Johanovská. “She managed everything, and the examinations showed that the condition was improving, and the treatment was working.”
Though, in 2023, the cancer returned with a vengeance. New metastases appeared in her liver, prompting further surgeries and chemotherapy. Tragically, the treatment resulted in neuropathy, a nerve disorder.
NSStringBy spring, the disease had spread to both lungs and the duodenum.Petra was approved for Fruzaqla 5 mg, a drug that costs 60,000 crowns per month. While awaiting VZP’s (Czech health insurance) approval, Johanovská believes the most effective treatment option for Petra lies in dendritic cell therapy at a clinic near Munich.
As of December 31, the campaign has raised over 767,000 crowns, nearing its goal of 875,000.
“Petra needs our help,” Johanovská emphasizes. “Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us closer to giving Petra a chance to fight this battle and spend more precious time with her loved ones.”
Litoměřice Woman Seeks Life-Saving Cancer Treatment abroad
A fundraising campaign has been launched to help Petra Cílová, a resident of Litoměřice, receive potentially life-saving cancer treatment in Germany. Cílová, a former employee of the Litoměřice Diakonia, is battling a serious illness that requires innovative dendritic cell therapy (DCT) not available in the Czech Republic. DCT harnesses the power of the patient’s own immune system. Blood is drawn from the patient, monocytes (a type of white blood cell) are isolated, and then these cells are exposed to mediators and growth factors. This change turns monocytes into dendritic cells, which are then programmed to recognize tumor cells. After about a week, these supercharged cells are reintroduced into the patient’s body, where they activate memory T-lymphocytes and NK cells to target and destroy cancer cells. The treatment involves two cycles, each costing a notable sum. Renata Johanovská, Cílová’s friend and the fundraising organizer, explains that the frist cycle is EUR 18,250. Additional transportation costs between Munich or Stuttgart airports and the clinic, as well as between the hotel and the clinic, amount to EUR 1,400 for two separate trips. If the patient stays eight days between visits, this transportation cost is reduced to EUR 860. The second cycle of DCT costs EUR 14,500. “Petra herself was always ready to lend a helping hand. After all, she also worked at the Litoměřice Diakonia. Now, she needs our help to fulfill her dreams and plans. Her greatest wish would be to see her future grandchildren grow up,” Johanovská said. The family is hopeful that the community will rally behind Cílová and help her access this potentially life-saving treatment.Related Article:
