Petition against MediaOne ban postponed to Thursday | The Supreme Court will hear the petition against the MediaOne ban on Friday

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing of a petition filed by MediaOne once morest the ban. Dushyant Dave, a senior advocate for Madhyam Broadcasting Limited, had asked the court to hear Media One’s case in open court instead of in a virtual court, but Chief Justice NV Ramana agreed and adjourned the case to Thursday.

When asked by Chief Justice NV Ramana if the case should be considered next Monday, Dave said it was not possible and that the channel was shut down due to the employment problem of regarding 350 workers. Dave said the case should be considered as soon as possible and that they were ready to argue today (Tuesday).

The petition was referred to the Supreme Court twice before a bench headed by the Chief Justice of the MediaOne Case on Monday for urgent consideration. Dave said it was a “very serious case” when first mentioned. Dushyant Dave claimed that the MediaOne channel, which has 350 employees and millions of viewers for 11 years, was blocked on the basis of some confidential files of the Home Ministry and that it was upheld by the single bench and division bench of the High Court.

Dave argued that this was an issue of the right to information and freedom of the press. Following this, Chief Justice NV Ramana said that the case would be heard on Friday itself. Davey’s request was later upheld by the Supreme Court. Apart from former Supreme Court Bar Association president Dushyant Dave, former Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi will also appear before the Supreme Court on behalf of MediaOne.
