A resident of Petit-Saguenay is accused of fraud that exceeds half a million dollars.
Julie Tremblay allegedly defrauded her former employer, Semences Saguenoises, which produces potatoes.
The fraud would amount to $516,000, according to our information.
The accused, whose reputation had been unblemished until then, certainly held an important position within the SME since, still according to our information, she would not only have embezzled money and used the company’s credit card company, but it also allegedly made loans and even created fake employees.
The Criminal Code provides a maximum sentence of 14 years for fraud over $5,000.
Ms. Tremblay has already appeared, and will be called back to court on September 8.
The defendant’s lawyer, Me Julien Boulianne, did not want to comment on the case.
Julie Tremblay still lives in Petit-Saguenay. Needless to say that in a village of 634 inhabitants, such a case causes a lot of reaction.
“There is the family of the accused, but also the owners, the workers and their families who are affected,” explained the mayor of the village Philôme Lafrance. “We hope that once the judgment is rendered, we can begin to heal quickly from this experience.”
Management was not available to answer questions today.
When the investigation was launched last year, the president of Semences Saguenoises, Robin Boudreault, affirmed that the company of regarding ten employees would weather this storm. It appears to have managed to recapitalize its funding.
“The municipality did not have to intervene financially,” confirmed Mayor Lafrance. “The owners have turned around and refinanced to be able to operate this year. Markets are guaranteed. We are very, very happy with it.”
Les Serres Saguenoises sells a large part of its production outside Quebec, in the Maritime provinces, Ontario and Saskatchewan.
