Petit-Canal: the tragic disappearance of a Hindu priest

A violent fire broke out in a house yesterday in the early evening, not far from the RN6 in Petit-Canal. André Perianayagom, a 90-year-old Hindu priest, unfortunately lost his life there.

A tragic accident. Shortly before 8 p.m. yesterday, Sunday July 17, André Perianayagom, 90, a great figure of Hinduism in Guadeloupe, was found lifeless at his home located not far from the RN6, in Petit-Canal. In question, a fire, for the time being, of unknown origin.

About twenty men from the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) of Guadeloupe were quickly dispatched to the scene because the house was completely ablaze when they arrived. The firefighters had a lot to do to overcome this disaster.

An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.

Considered an “encyclopedia of Indo-Guadeloupean heritage” and one of the last Hindu priests in Guadeloupe, he liked to share the extent of his knowledge of the rites and ceremonies practiced among Indo-Guadeloupeans.
