“Similar feints in the movie Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, sorry, the Prisoner of Azkaban. See you at the weekend.’ Sports presenter in one sentence Peter Varinsky he amused the whole of Slovakia, while he said it with absolute composure, without laughing or stuttering, as if nothing had happened. The favorite sportsman from Markíza found not only his profession on television, but also the mother of his children. Although he was a couple with Miriam Kalisová for years, after “non-Italian separation” he settled down with his colleague Lenka, with whom, unlike other well-known couples, they do things their own way.
Too tall football player
His father was involved in bodybuilding, and Peter wanted to follow the same path as a child. “She’s been practicing since I can remember. Ever since I was a child, I used to go to admire him in the weight room, that’s what it was called at the time,” he mentioned in Telerán, Peter Varinský, for whom sport has been his greatest passion since he was a child. A native of Nitra, he spent his childhood in a housing estate, where he started playing football, but he grew too fast and thus never made it to the professional ranks.
“At that time, they coined the theory that they didn’t need tall players. It’s funny that they are the most wanted footballers today. So I switched to basketball, which took a toll on my knees. They started to hurt a lot, so I had to stop. I returned to basketball again in college and started training for the men in Nitra, which my knees couldn’t take anymore, so basketball remained just a hobby for me.” he revealed for Nový Čas Peter, who, apart from sports, had another great passion – languages.
He taught himself English and German as a small boy while watching television. “I grew up on foreign animated fairy tales since I was a child. Of course, I also perceived their Slovak versions and thought about how I would translate it. Accordingly, I also chose my university and studied English and German at the Comenius University in Bratislava.” explained Peter Varinský.
To the TV through the bed
He translated professionally already during his studies, but in the end he was attracted to work in television. How he got in front of the cameras, he commented on Radio Jemné melódie with humor. “More or less across the bed,” laughed the moderator. “It’s possible, but you have to be persistent,” he joked.
Alright, everyone, grab your brooms and wands—no, wait, that’s a different story! Today, we’re diving into the whirlwind life of Peter Varinský, the Slovak sports presenter who’s as dynamic as a Quidditch match gone rogue. But before we spill the tea on Peter, let’s indulge in a little bit of Potterish magic, shall we?
Picture this: Peter Varinský pulls off a verbal spell so strong that the whole of Slovakia is clutching their sides—like watching a wizard make a gaffe at the Ministry of Magic. He casually mixes up Harry Potter movies with all the charm of someone who just walked into a Quidditch match without a broomstick! “See you at the weekend,” he nonchalantly declares! The crowd bursts into laughter, but he carries on as if he just said, “Expecto Patronum.” Such is the magic of television presenting—one minute you’re talking sports, the next, you’re conjuring giggles from your audience without even trying!
Now, let’s flick our wands back to his sporting upbringing. Our tall (and perhaps a bit too tall for soccer) friend Peter was literally born into a ‘weighty’ family! His father was a bodybuilder, and young Peter thought he’d follow in his footsteps—though let’s be honest, standing next to a bodybuilder is a bit like trying to play hide and seek behind a mountain.
Sport seemed to be Peter’s destiny until he quickly found himself in a height crisis—yes folks, we have a classic case of “too tall for football.” Back in the day, he was informed that they “didn’t need tall players“—a viewpoint that seems laughable now. I mean, who wouldn’t want a towering figure blocking all their opponents like a magical wall? So, he switched to basketball, where still… his knees had a say in the matter. These fragile joints sounded like two old men arguing as they drew too much attention to themselves.
But fear not! Peter’s not just a tall tale; he’s also a linguistic wizard! Having grown up on animated fairy tales, he didn’t just watch these magical stories; he practically translated them alive! Imagine a toddler sitting in front of the TV, chatting away in a mix of quirky animated dialects. Peter learned English and German while the rest of us were learning how to eat glue in kindergarten. His passion led him to Comenius University in Bratislava, where he took translating to another level—talk about magical transformations that’d make Hermione Granger proud!
Now, onto the pièce de résistance: how did Peter Varinský end up charming us from our screens? He hilariously states he came into television “more or less across the bed.” Now that deserves a round of applause! With a wink of irony and a glimmer of persistence, Peter turned a cheeky comment into a star-studded journey—even the stars might be writing their own tales in envy!
In conclusion, Peter Varinský is an enchanting mixture of sport, charm, and humor with just the right dose of unpredictability. From his not-so-cozy sofa sports commentary to multilingual fairy tale translations, this gentleman has shown that life can be as magical as any spell. So, let’s keep our wands out and our eyes peeled for his next culinary (well, not literally) misadventure—because who knows what will come next? Perhaps another Potter-related gaffe, or maybe even a revelation that he’s secretly been training a Hogwarts Quidditch team!
Until then, stay magical and keep those elbows off the table—unless, of course, you’re mixing a magical potion of laughter! Cheers!
“Similar feints in the movie Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, sorry, the Prisoner of Azkaban. See you at the weekend.’ With his signature calm and composed demeanor, sports presenter Peter Varinsky left Slovakia in stitches when he inadvertently conflated two well-known films during a live broadcast. The beloved sports figure from Markíza not only found his calling in television but also the love of his life—the mother of his children. After years of being in a relationship with Miriam Kalisová, they parted ways in what he humorously referred to as a “non-Italian separation.” Now, he enjoys a fulfilling partnership with his colleague Lenka, and their relationship stands out in the world of media couples for its unique and independent approach to living and parenting.
Too tall football player
As a child, Peter Varinsky admired his father, a bodybuilder, and aspired to follow in his footsteps. “She’s been practicing since I can remember. Ever since I was a child, I used to go to admire him in the weight room, that’s what it was called at the time,” he reminisced during a segment on Telerán. Growing up in Nitra, he found a passion for football in his youth, but due to his rapid growth, he never quite made it to the professional level. “At that time, they coined the theory that they didn’t need tall players. It’s funny that they are the most wanted footballers today.”
He later switched to basketball, but it came with challenges; his knees suffered significantly, forcing him to halt his aspirations. “They started to hurt a lot, so I had to stop. I returned to basketball again in college and started training for the men in Nitra, which my knees couldn’t take anymore, so basketball remained just a hobby for me.” In addition to his athletic pursuits, Peter also harbored a deep love for languages, complementing his sports interests with academic ones.
Followed by his passion for sports, Varinsky’s early love for languages blossomed as well. From a young age, he taught himself English and German, often while watching television. “I grew up on foreign animated fairy tales since I was a child. Of course, I also perceived their Slovak versions and thought about how I would translate it,” he recounted, revealing his motivations for choosing languages as a field of study. He ultimately enrolled at Comenius University in Bratislava, where he focused on English and German.
To the TV through the bed
Peter began translating professionally during his university years, but the allure of television eventually captured his interest. He recounted his somewhat humorous journey to on-screen stardom on Radio Jemné melódie: “More or less across the bed,” he chuckled. “It’s possible, but you have to be persistent,” he added, reflecting on the uniqueness of his path into the broadcasting world.
E started playing football but faced a challenge due to his height. Despite his passion for the sport, he found that the prevailing attitude at the time was that tall players were not needed in football. This led him to transition to basketball—a sport where height could be an advantage. However, he soon encountered injuries that hindered his ability to play at a competitive level.
Peter’s journey through sports didn’t end there. After taking a break due to his knee pain, he returned to basketball in college, where he trained with the men’s team in Nitra. Unfortunately, the strain on his knees became too significant, so basketball ultimately remained a hobby rather than a professional pursuit.
In addition to his athletic endeavors, Peter cultivated a love for languages at an early age. He was self-taught in English and German by watching foreign animated films and was fascinated by the art of translation. Inspired by this passion, he pursued a degree in these languages at Comenius University in Bratislava, where he honed his skills and began translating professionally even while still studying.
As he navigated his way through languages and sports, Peter found his calling in television. His humorous comments about entering the television industry “more or less across the bed” highlight his unique approach to life and career. This sense of humor has defined his on-screen persona as a sports presenter, where he creates engaging moments that resonate with audiences.
In his personal life, Peter has experienced ups and downs, including a notable relationship with Miriam Kalisová, which he humorously described as a “non-Italian separation.” Currently, he shares a meaningful partnership with his colleague Lenka, and they have managed to cultivate a distinctive relationship marked by independence and mutual respect.
Peter Varinský’s story is a testament to resilience and adaptability. From a “too tall” football player to a magnetic television presenter and language enthusiast, his journey illustrates how diverse passions can intertwine in unexpected ways, all while maintaining a sense of humor and charm.
