Péter Szijjártó: there will not be an Orbán-Zelenskyi meeting anytime soon

On Monday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade paid a visit to Ungvár, where he and his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmitro Kulebáwith, respectively Andrij Jermak met with the President’s Registrar. Jermak said at the press conference following the meeting that they had taken a very strong step forward Viktor Orban and Volodymyr Zelenskyi towards the meeting with the President of Ukraine. Péter Szijjártó and stated that an 11-point list of demands was submitted in connection with the return of the rights of the Transcarpathian Hungarian minority before 2015.

At the press conference following the meeting of the Hungarian-Bahrain Joint Economic Committee, Péter Szijjártó, answering questions from journalists, reiterated that the Hungarian-Ukrainian summit will only make sense if it can move bilateral relations to a new dimension, which, however, the parties still have to work on a lot.

There is a long way to go before a high-level meeting takes place, but we are ready to do this joint work

he declared.

We took important steps yesterday. In the coming days and weeks, the intergovernmental working group on education will have to carry out the work that will make it possible for Hungarians in Transcarpathia to regain the rights already available to the Hungarian community in 2015.

Péter Szijjártó pointed out.

We are working to ensure that the infrastructural developments connecting the two countries are successful, so that we can carry out transport improvements in the border area. The full fulfillment of all these can mean a new dimension, a new era (…) And if this is there, then it makes sense to talk regarding how and when the high-level meeting should take place

he added.

Speaking regarding the ratification of Sweden’s NATO accession, the minister believed that the session of the Parliament will begin soon at the end of February, at which the issue can be put on the agenda if the majority decides, therefore

there is really no point in calling an extraordinary meeting.
