The overall election proposal, in which Kaiser and the other six members of the government stood for election, was confirmed by 22 of the 36 MPs – exactly the number of MPs in the SPÖ-ÖVP coalition.
In addition to Kaiser, Gaby Schaunig (SPÖ) was elected and sworn in as the first deputy governor and Martin Gruber (ÖVP) as the second deputy governor. The state council posts are held by Beate Prettner, Daniel Fellner, Sara Schaar (all SPÖ) and Sebastian Schuschnig (ÖVP). All of them and their deputies vowed to exercise their office “to the best of their knowledge and belief”.
Previously, Reinhart Rohr (SPÖ) had been elected the first president of the state parliament, the other two presidents are Christoph Staudacher (FPÖ) and Andreas Scherwitzl (SPÖ). This is followed by the election of the members of the Federal Council and the election of the committee members. The session will conclude in the early followingnoon with a statement by the previous and future governor, Kaiser.
The SPÖ lost heavily in the state elections, but remained the party with the most votes and has 15 of the 36 MPs (previously 18). The coalition partner ÖVP, contrary to the polls, gained slightly and has seven (previously six) MPs. With nine MPs, the FPÖ has the same number of seats as before. The fourth state parliament party, the Carinthia team, has grown to club size (from three to five mandates). Greens and NEOS missed the entry into the state parliament. Of the 36 members of the state parliament, 19 are new to the state parliament. Only six of the 36 MPs are women.
