Peter Jackson, who knows regarding horror, is a big fan of “The Hand”, the horror film of the moment. Discover his words.
The Hand of Danny and Michael Phillipou continues to garner accolades from all quarters as one of independent production company A24’s greatest achievements. The director brothers are now lauded by another director who has named the low-budget horror film a must-watch reminding him of the beginnings of his own career.
As ComingSoon reminds us, Peter Jackson is best known these days for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong or The Lovely Bones, but before all that, the director began his career in the horror genre, signing for example the films Bad Taste or Les Feebles, shot in his native New Zealand. Even when he made it to Hollywood, he didn’t completely abandon the genre as evidenced by the horror-comedy Ghosts Against Ghosts.
In a statement released recently (via ComingSoon), the horror enthusiast therefore spoke regarding the latest film in the genre which is causing a stir.
The Hand isn’t just good – it’s very, very good. The best, most intense horror movie I’ve enjoyed in years.
He also added that the feature is “relentlessly scary and disturbing – in the best possible way”.
High praise indeed for the Australian film, of which a short prequel has already been shot. With the film’s critical and commercial success, it seems entirely possible that A24 will greenlight a long-running prequel as well as an already-talked-regarding sequel.
The Hand follows the story of teenagers using an embalmed hand to summon spirits that possess them. Possession, like a drug, however, ends up inviting terrible forces.
The Main is to be discovered, if you dare, in your nearest cinema.
