While the Lord of the Rings is on the rise (the imminent release of the prequel series The Rings of Power there is something for it), we learn new unpublished anecdotes around the trilogy and its conception. Peter Jackson, the famous director of the trilogy, notably shared in an interview how and why he wanted to completely forget his work following its release in the cinema !
forget the trilogy, a fan wish
Contrary to what one might think at first glance, Peter Jackson absolutely did not want to erase The Lord of the Rings from his memory because he considered it a failure! In an interview with the podcast Hollywood ReporterAwards Chatter, the filmmaker explained that he felt aggrieved when the trilogy was released in theatersbecause he mightn’t discover it with a fresh eye like all the other Tolkien fans.
When we made the films of Lord of the RingsI’ve always had feeling like the unlucky person who never got to see them as an unreleased movie. When it came out in theaters, I had been immersed in it for five or six years already. It was a real loss for me not to be able to see them like everyone else. I even seriously consideredgo see a hypnotist to hypnotize me and make me forget the movies and the work I had done over the past six or seven years, so I might sit back and enjoy them. I didn’t go all the way, but I talked to Derren Brown regarding it [mentaliste britannique]and he thought he might do it.
While the community of Middle-earth fans was able to discover the epic adaptation of Peter Jackson on the big screen, the latter, who is also one of the fans of the first hour, was not so lucky! What to consider (seriously) a consultation with a hypnotist, in order to eradicate all traces of the films in his mind, and to be able to watch them “for the first time”… Honestly, we are not sure that it would have worked!
In the end, the filmmaker did well not to attempt the adventure, since he will be able to discover the series of the Lord of the Rings, in which he did not participate, having been ghosted by Amazon… A blessing in disguise!
