Peter Hook – “Hooky” to everyone – is a living model of bass playing: always copied, never equalled. A story written in 1979 with Joy Division, then continued with New Order. He has not been part of the Mancunian group for several years, but following a long legal battle, he is allowed to play all his old songs on stage and under his own name. Unbelievable luck for Switzerland: he is coming this Wednesday to Lausanne to follow up the two compilations of Joy Division and New Order called Substance. A supercharged show lasting almost three hours with eternal titles that have captivated generations of listeners. The Briton has told a lot regarding his life in three superb and monumental works.
If you had to read just one, go for the aptly named one Substance. New Order seen from the inside (Ed. Le Mot et le Reste, 2017 for the French translation) and its 750 frankly hilarious autobiographical pages. But he still has things to reveal, in complete spontaneity. Zoom conversation with an eternal young man.
