St. Pölten (OTS) –

As part of the Lower Austrian children’s education and care offensive, two more kindergarten groups and a new two-group day care facility were ceremoniously opened in Vitis yesterday. “The project is a prime example of the blue-yellow care offensive. With the two additional kindergarten groups, two-year-olds can now also be admitted to the kindergarten if their parents need it. The two-group day care facility is offered across communities, meaning that families from surrounding communities also have the opportunity to receive high-quality child care. This shows the good cooperation between the communities in the Waldviertel. “Thank you to Mayor Anette Töpfl and her team from politics and administration for this exemplary project for the families in the Waldviertel,” said State Councilor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister at the opening ceremony. The expansion of child care in Vitis was supported with over 900,000 euros through the school and kindergarten fund.

Lower Austria also enjoys encouraging statistics on elementary education, which were published in Statistics Austria’s monitoring report for the year 2023/24. Accordingly, the attendance rate for children under 3 in Lower Austria is 36.3%, above the Austrian average of 34.9% and above the Barcelona target of 33%. Lower Austria also leads among 3 to 5 year olds with a rate of 98.3%, exceeding the Barcelona target of 96%. These successes are an expression of the comprehensive measures that the state of Lower Austria has taken in close cooperation with the communities. “These figures underline the efforts of the state of Lower Austria and its municipalities to ensure a good network of childcare offers throughout the country,” said family regional councilor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister.

In total, 250 new groups have become operational across the country since September, and around 615 groups are planned by 2027. These developments also contribute to ensuring needs-based and high-quality childcare throughout Lower Austria.
