The animal rights organization PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) elected the Apple a Company of the Year 2023 — thanks to Apple’s decision to stop offering leather accessories.

In addition to recognizing this decision, PETA even mentioned the impact of the measure on Brazil. They also highlighted Apple’s efforts to neutralize its carbon emissions by 2023.

Additionally, much of the leather sold in U.S. stores comes from countries where animal welfare laws are nonexistent or largely unenforced. In Brazil — the world’s largest source of animal skins — a PETA report revealed that workers beat cows and bulls, burned them with hot irons and gave them electric shocks before their skins were turned into leather products, such as car interiors. .

According to the organization, Apple is “setting a tremendous example” for other large companies while meeting consumer demand for more sustainable products.

They also pointed out that Apple “will save countless animals and help mitigate the climate catastrophe”. More than that, the company is making “compassionate consumers feel good regarding buying green products.”

It is worth noting that the company announced a new type of material, called FineWovento replace your leather accessories — but that It wasn’t exactly well-received. Furthermore, although Apple is avoiding leather, that hasn’t stopped some of its partners from using the material.
