Pesticides in jams: traces of banned products found in some jars

Pesticide residues, present in some jars of jam. This is the finding of 60 million consumers, who looked into their magazine on jams and sifted through 40 jars.

“With or without pesticides?”. In his comparative test published Thursday, March 30, 60 million consumers tackle jam. To carry out its investigation, the consumer defense magazine looked at the two most consumed fruits in jam: the apricot and the strawberry, through 40 references, from brands, such as distributor brands, organic products, such as unlabeled products.

And the results show very unequal qualities. “Bad surprise: 15 different molecules of insecticides and fungicides, including 2 banned in the EU”, says the magazine in its preamble in its tweet.

Several references pointed

Capital indeed details that in total, 22 references present pesticides in their compositions. Concerning the two substances banned in the European Union, these are carbendazim and thiophanate-methyl and they have been detected in the jam jars of the Auchan, Confipote, Gerblé and Paquito brands, as for Andros, carbendazim was detected.

On the other hand, it should be emphasized that the doses of pesticides are discovered at very low levels, well below the limits imposed by the regulations. The same goes for carbendazim, recalls Capital, which if it is banned in the EU, remains authorized in these jams as its presence there is weak. As for the organic products tested by the magazine, they do not contain pesticides.
