Peschiera – When the mob left, Orietta Gaiulli, the mayor of Peschiera, said, stunned: “We have seen a day of war.”
About 1500 to 2000 young people attacked the tranquil town on Lake Garda (Italy), rioted, attacked tourists and destroyed shop windows. There were fights, stabbings, stones and bottles thrown at the police.

The perpetrators: mainly young people, apparently mostly migrants from North Africa. They traveled to “Republic Day” on June 2nd and chanted “This is Africa”.
In the meantime, the incident has triggered heated political discussions in Italy – also because countless women were groped and harassed by men from the mob. About 30 suspects are being investigated.
The German-Israeli psychologist Ahmad Masour tweeted: “It doesn’t start with boys harassing women on the street. It begins with the notions of purity & honor that a woman preserves her virginity…”
Calls for a new mob are circulating for the coming days, this time in Riccione near Rimini.
