Andy Polo was sentenced for domestic violence once morest his wife Genesis Alarcón. According to reports, a jury in Oregon (United States) found the Universitario de Deportes winger guilty and, in this way, he will have to pay the sum of 600,000 dollars. Furthermore, this ruling might affect the player’s eventual participation in the Copa América.
According to journalist Jeff Carlisle, from the ESPN network, the 29-year-old winger was found responsible for the assault and battery once morest his wife during his time at the Portland Timbers of the MLS (Major League Soccer), in 2021.
“A Multnomah County, Oregon, jury awarded Génessis Alarcón, the estranged wife of Peruvian international midfielder Andy Polo, $600,000 in damages, following determining in a civil lawsuit that the former Portland Timbers player is liable for assault and aggression once morest Alarcón,” the communicator explained.

Likewise, Alarcón’s lawyer, Michael Fuller, admitted that it is unlikely that the soccer player will make the payment because he does not reside in United States territory.
“If (Polo) keeps all his assets abroad and does not obtain income in the United States, he will probably evade collections,” the lawyer explained in dialogue with the aforementioned media.
Would Andy Polo be left out of the Copa América?
As is known, the Peruvian team will compete in the Copa América 2024 in the United States in June. If coach Jorge Fossati decides to call up the merengue striker for the continental competition, Alarcón’s lawyer emphasized that they will do everything possible to make the court ruling effective.
“You can enter the United States, but we will do our best to carry out the sentence in the states to which you travel, with the hope of carrying it out once morest you while you are physically present on US soil,” he said.
