(CNN Spanish) — The National Police of Peru (PNP) announced this Thursday the capture of 31 alleged members of an organization that they point out as a faction of the transnational criminal gang El Tren de Aragua, including one of its alleged leaders Yomar José Delgado Palacio, alias “Nino”, through a statement in X, before Twitter.

The “megaoperation” carried out in Lima and several areas of the country dealt a “strong blow to the criminal organization,” according to the PNP, which also specified that during the operation 42 nightclubs and properties were raided.

“These premises would be linked to said OC. The detainees would be immersed in the crimes of criminal organization, kidnapping, extortion and human trafficking for the purposes of sexual exploitation to the detriment of foreign women from the countries of Venezuela and Colombia,” the announcement detailed in the social network.

CNN is trying to determine if Palacio has legal representation.

While El Tren de Aragua is classified as the largest and most powerful criminal gang in Venezuela – according to reports from the organization Insight Crime and the United States Government – in Peru a “maximum alert” was declared on the border with Ecuador in September, when the escape of Héctor “Niño” Guerrero, leader of the criminal organization, was reported.

The 31 alleged members of this faction of El Tren de Aragua “would have participated in criminal actions of extortion and crimes once morest personal freedom with subsequent homicides to the detriment of businessmen and health professionals, directed by members held in prisons abroad and in the Peru”, according to the PNP.

The Peruvian Police calls the factions of El Tren de Aragua “lines” and the dismantled one was identified as the Alayon Dynasty, which according to the PNP had been carrying out criminal activities in the country since 2022 and “its networks of action would extend to the countries of Colombia and Chile,” detailed the statement from the Public Ministry.
