Monkeypox infections reached 834 in Peru, according to the latest figures offered on Monday by the Ministry of Health, which detailed that there are currently 513 active cases and 321 medical discharges.
The department of Lima is where most cases of the virus are concentrated, 694, and the rest are distributed in 14 regions, Callao (55), La Libertad (39), Arequipa (14), Cuzco (6), Piura (5 ), Ica (4), Loreto (3), Ancash (3), Cajamarca (2), Junín (2), Huánuco (2), Lambayaque (2), Ucayali (2), and Tacna (1).
The ministry indicated in its report that, since the first contagion of monkeypox was detected in Peru, on June 26, until this Monday, the number of cases has reached 834, while there are 59 new cases registered. .
The institution indicated that all people affected by the virus are receiving medical assistance and are being monitored, and that contact identification is being carried out.
Regarding the purchase of vaccines, the Minister of Health, Jorge López, confirmed last Wednesday that the acquisition of the doses will be done jointly with other interested member countries of the Pan American Health Organization.
«Yesterday (this Tuesday) the committee of experts met in relation to the acquisition of the vaccine. They have determined that the vaccine will be purchased. Let’s hope they deliver the doses to us in due course,” López said at a press conference.
The minister explained that the PAHO Revolving Fund is “the most appropriate mechanism to ensure equal and supportive access to monkeypox vaccines.”
