Peru prepares to produce nuclear energy and generate cheaper electricity – ANDINA

The Minister of Energy and Mines, Rómulo Mucho, said today that Peru will work on the implementation of nuclear energy in order to generate cheaper electricity with lower carbon emissions. “Peru will also generate nuclear electricity, that is, it will produce nuclear energy to generate electricity, which is the lowest in carbon, the most economical and the most powerful,” he said during the institutional ceremony for the 45th anniversary of the Geological, Mining and Metallurgical Institute (Ingemmet).

Many have commented that nuclear energy is a growing trend in the world and that Peru cannot remain on the sidelines of this development.

“Nuclear energy will generate growth opportunities and greater opportunities to reduce dependence on traditional energy sources, opening up the possibility of developing new technologies that allow for better use of nuclear energy,” he said.

Fertilizers

Mucho asserted that if it were not for fertilizers that come from minerals, food security would be at risk. “There is research that concludes that the decomposition of rocks provides the fertilizers we need for the soil. Therefore, I would recommend the use of mineral fertilizers. Ingemmet approach agriculture to understand these studies for common work for the benefit of the populations,” he said.

On the other hand, the owner of the Mine highlighted a recommendation made by the Ingemmet so that each district of the country has a geologist, in order to contribute to the territorial development of the communities. “Some authorities sell plots in vulnerable areas, prone to the effects of climatic phenomena. This is where the importance of having the expert opinion of a geologist lies,” he said.
