This decision has been communicated to the Ministry of Defense, which must now assign the Private Investment Promotion Agency (Proinversión) the responsibility of carrying out the preliminary studies for the implementation of the project, he added.

The commander general highlighted that Peru participated for the first time last year in the space symposium in the United States and signed an alliance with the ‘Space Force’, which, he indicated, “is a new force established in the United States for the management of space, the control of GPS satellites and other components that can be placed in space.”

Chavez said that this is “a great investment for the country” that will facilitate the development of northern Peru, since in Talara “there is no petrochemical plant capable of producing liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen in large quantities, which are necessary to supply the launch vehicles.”

The project has already been approved in the Multiannual Report on Investments in Public-Private Partnerships (Imiapp) of the Ministry of Defense and it is estimated that it will require an investment of approximately 1,000 million soles (around 270 million dollars or 253 million euros).
