The investigation is being conducted by the First Provincial Family Prosecutor’s Office of the Puente Piedra district, in northern Lima. It was announced following Venezuela’s Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, asked his Peruvian counterpart, Pablo Sánchez, to investigate the “xenophobic aggression” suffered by the minor.
The Peruvian Public Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement that proceedings were opened once morest those responsible for the alleged commission of the crime of assault once morest the child.
“The attack allegedly occurred within the facilities of a local educational institution, where the minor who was attacked studies,” he said.
In this regard, the provincial prosecutor Alfonso Infantes Castillo ordered that the investigation be carried out with the speed required by the case and that the directors and teachers of the school where he studies also give their statement.
The Attorney General’s Office reiterated “its commitment to prevent and prosecute crime, defend legality, citizens’ rights and public interests protected by law, as well as ensure the fair and effective administration of justice” in the country.

Saab reported on Twitter on Saturday that he had sent a letter to Sánchez “for the serious act of xenophobia committed once morest a Venezuelan child by a classmate, who hit him severely, causing a stroke and cervical sprain.”
His parents sought help from the press following the director of the Víctor Raúl Haya de la Torre school in Puente Piedra avoided intervening in the case and the hospital that treated him wanted to discharge him, despite the following-effects he has, such as vomiting, convulsions and headaches.
The attack sparked outrage in Peru and prompted authorities to respond to the child’s injuries and punish those responsible.
Peru’s Ministry of Education announced last Friday that it had ordered an investigation to determine who was responsible. It is coordinating with the Ministry of Health to provide the family with the necessary facilities to ensure the recovery of the minor.
The Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations condemned the attack and stressed that all migrants have rights that must be respected and guaranteed.
Peru has 1.3 million Venezuelans in its territory, according to UN figures. A flow that grew as a result of the facilities offered by former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (2016-2018) in his government for those fleeing the political and humanitarian crisis in Venezuela.
