PT Pertamina collaborates with Siemens Energy to realize safe and affordable sustainable energy in Indonesia. This synergy is marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding regarding the discussion of business opportunities and potential collaboration for technology acceleration.
“Through the Memorandum of Understanding between Pertamina and Siemens Energy, we are taking a step forward for proactive and visionary energy leadership. This collaboration is more than just a strategic alliance, namely a combination of expertise, resources, and collective efforts to overcome the energy trilemma and ensure that energy is safe, sustainable, and affordable. Not only for now, but also for future generations,” said Pertamina’s Director of Strategy, Portfolio, and Business Development Salyadi Saputra in his statement, Thursday (15/8).
The collaboration, he added, reflects the cooperation between energy and technology companies to produce innovation. Not only that, the collaboration also creates added value for stakeholders, communities and the environment.
“We will utilize the potential of new renewable resources as a step in the energy transition. At the same time, we will encourage economic growth,” explained Salyadi.
Siemens Energy said the same thing. Both have the same vision to become a sustainable company and carry out the energy transition in Indonesia.
“Indonesia has the potential to lead the energy transition, and our partnership with Pertamina is the foundation for building a sustainable future for Indonesia. Siemens Energy is not just a technology provider, but rather, we are a partner in shaping a new energy landscape based on tradition and progress,” said Thorbjörn Fors, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Siemens Energy Asia Pacific.

Managing Director of Siemens Energy Indonesia Andilo Harahap added, this collaboration is a beginning and a shared vision. “We strive to optimize and use higher technology so that we can produce energy efficiently, but still protect the environment through emission reduction,” he said.
In the memorandum of understanding, there are three main programs that will be implemented. First, Power-to-X which is an innovative technology to produce new ways of producing and storing renewable energy.
Second, utilization of upstream wastewater heat energy. In this program, heat from wastewater can be reused, resulting in energy efficiency and sustainability.

SVP Research & Technology Innovation Pertamina, Oki Muraza added, this energy utilization program is a big leap. By utilizing advanced heat utilization technology from Siemens Energy, Pertamina can increase the efficiency of upstream operations, while also reducing the carbon footprint. “This is one of the circular economies in the energy sector,” explained Oki.
Third, Decarbonization of the Marine Sector which will be useful for monitoring and managing carbon emissions in the maritime industry. “This is also an important program because the maritime industry is an important component in global trade, and this industry faces challenges for emission reduction,” he added.
Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso added, Pertamina collaborates with various business partners, as well as government institutions and academics, to develop sustainable energy potential and emission decarbonization efforts. This collaboration is believed to be able to support Pertamina’s role in maintaining national energy security, while achieving the Net Zero Emission target of the Indonesian Government.
“Initiatives in the field of energy and sustainability are very important, as Indonesia strives to meet international environmental standards and contribute to global efforts to combat climate change,” Fadjar said. (Z-11)
